Antonio Banderas competirá a mejor actor protagonista de cine en drama con Christian Bale (Le Mans’66), Adam Driver (Historia de un matrimonio), Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) y Jonathan Pryce (Los dos papas). Dolor y Gloria competirá, por otro lado, a mejor película extranjera, con Parásitos, Retrato de una mujer en llamas, Los Miserables y The Farewell. De Armas compite en mejor actriz protagonista de comedia o musical con Awkwafina, por The Farewell; Cate Blanchett, por Dónde estás, Bernardette; Beanie Feldstein, por Súper empollonas, y Emma Thompson, por Late Night.
