Si el más reciente álbum The Bootleg Series Vol. 15: Travelin’ Thru, 1967–1969 publicado por la compañía discográfica Columbia Records se enfocaba en la carrera musical de Dylan entre 1967 y 1969, periodo en el que publicó los discos John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline y Self Portrait, en este caso Bootleg Series Vol. 16 cubre los años 1980 – 1985, período en que grabó los discos Saved (1980), Shot of Love (1981), Infidels (1983), Real Life (1984) y Empire Burlesque (1985).
La nueva serie, titulada Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York (1980-1985), captura un período único en la vida de Dylan, desde 1980 a 1985, y proporcionará un telón de fondo para algunos de los años más problemáticos del cantante en la industria discográfica, los años 80s. La serie incluirá, como es habitual, tomas alternativas, inéditos y ensayos, así como las extensas notas de Dylan. Disponible como un conjunto de 2 x LP o 2 x CD, o el conjunto deluxe de cinco discos, se lanzará el 17 de septiembre. La edición de lujo de 5CD del álbum presenta 57 grabaciones raras de Bob Dylan, 54 de ellas inéditas en cualquier formato, de 1980 a 1985.
